UTM: Frequentis and Altitude Angel enter the Norwegian market

Frequentis and Altitude Angel will provide a UTM solution to Avinor to manage the air traffic generated by drones.

On January 15, Frequentis announced that it had won a contract in Norway to supply UTM solutions. To this end, the Austrian company is partnering with Altitude Angel, specialized in drones. Frequentis, for its part, will bring its expertise in communications and air management technologies. The company will thus provide applications to manage the registration of drones and flight plans. The UTM system to be deployed will be managed by Avinor, responsible for aviation safety in Norway.

The choice of Norway to have a UTM system follows the establishment of a drone strategy in the country in 2018. In that respect, 18 airports will soon be integrated into the UTM system in order to easily conduct drone operations in their space.

Simplified management of drone flights and real-time monitoring of the aerial situation therefore enable the authorities to support the development of the drone sector. Altitude Angel believes that this should allow the conduct of Beyond Visual Line of Sight flights such as drone delivery flights.
