Safran inaugurates its new electrical engineering center of excellence

Safran's electrical engineering center of excellence was inaugurated in Créteil on September 23, 2022. The 6,400-square-meter facility brings together Safran Electrical & Power's design offices for electric and hybrid propulsion, power electronics, electrical distribution and electrical conversion, which were previously spread out over several sites.

6,400 square meters dedicated to electric and hybrid propulsion

This 6,400-square-meter site brings together Safran Electrical & Power's design offices related to electric and hybrid propulsion, power electronics, electrical distribution and electrical conversion, which were previously spread over several sites. The new building houses electrical system test benches, program and customer support teams and support functions.

A new center for aircraft electrical systems

This new engineering center is at the heart of Safran Electrical & Power's electrical system design. Here, teams define primary and secondary electrical distribution solutions, whose role is to transport and manage electricity from generators to loads. The Créteil site also designs the ePower product line for new all-electric and hybrid aircraft. These products cover the entire aircraft electrical chain: GENeUSPACK batteries, ENGINeUS engines, GENeUSGRID primary and secondary distribution system, GENeUSGRID PROPULSION power management system. To this range of products are added the GENeUS generators, designed in Pitstone, Great Britain.

"[In]this new center of expertise are developed the electric propulsion systems that will soon equip small passenger and pilot training aircraft, then regional commercial aircraft, and ultimately hybridize the new generations of internal combustion engines. Our teams are extremely motivated by the idea of contributing to decarbonizing aviation by developing breakthrough electric technologies," said Stéphane Cueille, President of Safran Electrical & Power.
