New engine test of the Ariane 6 upper stage

Every weekend, a picture that made the news or caught our attention. On January 20, a new test firing of the upper stage of the future European heavy launcher took place in Lampoldshausen, Germany.

On January 20, teams from ArianeGroup, prime contractor and design authority for Ariane 6, and the DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt), the German aerospace center, have once again fired the re-ignitable UPLM (Upper Liquid Propulsion Module) cryogenic upper stage of the future European heavy launcher, equipped with the Vinci engine.

The first test had been conducted on October 5 last.

The new test was conducted on the same dedicated P5.2 test stand, which has been installed since February 2019 at the DLR center in Lampoldshausen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

The facility appears largely covered in snow in aerial shots that were taken for the occasion.
