Italian Army UH90s achieve 3,000 flying hours in Afghanistan

NH Industries reports that the UH90 — the tactical transport version of NH90 helicopter produced by NH Industries for the Italian Army — has achieved 3,000 flying hours in Afghanistan.

The milestone was achieved during an aerial reconnaissance mission over the Herat area. The UH90 multirole helicopters of Task Group “Fenice”, in service with TAAC-W (Train Advise Assist Command - West), achieved this goal four years after their arrival in the Afghan theatre.

Over this period, Italian UH90s (the first NH90 version to be deployed in an international military campaign) have performed more than 1,650 operational missions, operating in the western region of Afghanistan for tactical transport, reconnaissance, liaison and support to Special Forces.

Since 2014, as part of the Resolute Support Mission, the UH90 helicopter has played a fundamental role in Medical Evacuation tasks in support of TAAC-W personnel employed in training and support to Afghan Armed Forces.

Task Group “Fenice”, deployed to Afghanistan by Italy, operates UH90 and AH-129 “Mangusta” helicopters and is composed by teams qualified for helicopter emergency medical tasks and specialists of 66th Airborne Infantry Regiment.
