Embraer: a newcomer to the UAV market

Embraer has announced a collaboration with Elroy Air to develop an unmanned air cargo system able to carry out long-distance deliveries.

On January 8, Embraer announced at CES 2020 a collaboration agreement with Elroy Air. The latter will share its expertise in autonomous aircraft systems with EmbraerX, the Brazilian manufacturer’s disruptive business subsidiary, in order to develop a cargo UAV able to carry out long-distance deliveries. “Booming eCommerce is forcing the cargo market to grow and seek new solutions, creating a distinct need for more flexibility”, said Antonio Campello, President & CEO, EmbraerX.

However, Embraer is not limited to transporting small packages — which is often the case with drone delivery projects. The manufacturer intends to use its experience in the aeronautical field in order to reach significant targets, hence its partnership with Elroy Air which provides for the development of the Chaparral system, capable of delivering cargo (250-500 lbs) over distances up to 300 miles. A capacity that therefore meets the needs of logistics shareholders as well.

Beyond cargo, EmbraerX is engaged in several projects, including the development of an Urban Air Mobility focused eVTOL and a tailored Urban Air Traffic Management (UATM) system.
