Vinci Airports reports 12.2% traffic growth in Q3

Vinci Airports has reported 12.2% growth in traffic during the third quarter compared with the same period in 2016. A total of 42.3 million passengers were handled across platforms operated by the French company.

Vinci Airports has reported 12.2% growth in traffic during the third quarter compared with the same period in 2016. A total of 42.3 million passengers were handled across platforms operated by the French company, which manages the development and operations of 35 airports in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

In Portugal, the country's airports reported their best-ever summer season, with 16.6 million passengers between July and September (+14.7%). Lisbon Airport confirmed its position as a regional hub with the launch, at the end of July, of direct flights between Beijing and Lisbon three times a week, operated by Beijing Capital Airlines. Traffic at the airport rose 16%.

In Cambodia, the country's three airports posted growth of 31%. New routes included the launch by Emirates in early July of daily flights between Dubai and Phnom Penh. Q3 traffic at Phnom Penh International rose 32.8% over the previous year to more than a million passengers.

In France, traffic increased 9.9% at platforms managed by Vinci Airports,  including 15.4% growth at Nantes Atlantique and 7.5% at Lyon-Saint Exupéry. 

In Chile, the launch of service by low-cost carrier JetSmart at Santiago airport gave a new boost to domestic traffic (total traffic up 12.6%).

In Japan, the Kansai airports recorded Q3 growth of 8.5% on the previous year, setting a record for the three-month period.

In the Dominican Republic, adverse weather conditions combined with the crisis in Venezuela moderated Q3 traffic volume, which stabilised.

Since the beginning of the year, Vinci Airports network platforms have served more than 112m passengers, an increase of 12.6% over the previous year. Over 12 rolling months, Vinci Airports network platforms have handled 145m passengers (+12.4%).
