Qatar Airways orders Boeing 747-8Fs, 777-300ERs

At the delivery ceremony for its first Boeing 747-8 Freighter, the Gulf carrier announced additional orders for two 747-8Fs and four 777-300ERs.

Boeing and Qatar Airways have announced an order for two 747-8 Freighters and four 777-300ERs (Extended Range), valued at $2.16bn at list prices. The orders were previously unidentified on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website.

The airline — which currently operates a fleet of 20 widebody cargo aircraft, including 12 777Fs — also received its first 747-8F at a delivery ceremony attended by Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker and Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Kevin McAllister. The airline is scheduled to receive a second 747-8F in November.

Qatar Airways currently operates a fleet of nearly 100 Boeing widebody airplanes — including 34 777-300ERs out of an initial order for 44 — and has more than 100 additional Boeing aircraft on order. The carrier became a launch customer for the 777X in 2013, was the first to operate the 787 in the Middle East and has 20 737 MAX airplanes on order.
