Paris-Orly completes runway renovation

Groupe ADP reports that renovation work on runway 4 at Paris-Orly airport has been completed and the runway is again open to traffic, one week ahead of schedule.

Paris airports operator Groupe ADP reports that renovation work on runway 4 at Paris Orly has been completed and the runway is again open to traffic. The work, part of the group’s Connect 2020 strategic plan, was completed on 25th August, one week ahead of schedule.

This year’s closure, along with a similar shutdown last summer, was necessary to bring the 3,650m runway into compliance with new EASA regulations, including creation of Runway End Safety Areas at both ends to reduce the risk of damage to aircraft in the event of an undershoot, overshoot or runway excursion.

Other improvements are designed to enhance performance for Cat III landings towards the west. The French civil aviation authority is to install ILS Cat III landing aids.

The runway pavement has also been resurfaced, with a modified cross slope. Runway lighting has been improved with the introduction of LEDs (1,870 lights replaced).
