Paris Air Show 2019: Leonardo will exhibit its brand-new Multiple Aperture Infra-Red (MAIR) missile warning system.

Leonardo comes with its last generation threat warner — MAIR — at the Paris Air Show.

Among Leonardo’s various projects that will be unveiled at the 2019 Paris Air Show, there is the Multiple Aperture Infra-Red (MAIR) missile warning system which not only provides missile warning but also Hostile Fire Indication (HFI), spherical day and night imaging and full Infra-Red Search and Track (IRST) functionality.

MAIR is designed to be part of a defensive aids suite and assist by detecting, identifying, tracking, classifying, and declaring targets, and then operate an appropriate counter-measure system from the aircraft.

MAIR can be installed on a wide range of platforms such as combat aircrafts and helicopters, surveillance and transport platforms and business jets.

The system was successfully tested during 2018’s Surface to Air Launch Trials (Salt III) and is expected to be ready for full production in 2020.

It is not the first infrared search and track (IRST) system manufactured by Leonardo. In fact, Leonardo’s IRST technology is already set on the Eurofighter Typhoon (which is equipped with the PIRATE IRST) and is on board the Saab Gripen E (which carries Leonardo’s Skyward-G IRST).
