Latécoère inaugurates smart factory

Latécoère has inaugurated its new smart factory at Toulouse-Montredon, designed to accelerate the digital transformation process within the company.

Latécoère officially inaugurated its new smart factory at Toulouse-Montredonon on 22nd May. Launched as part of the French aerostructures and systems specialist's Transformation 2020 programme, the €37m facility aims to accelerate the digital transformation process within the company.

Production of aluminium parts started in February, just 10 months after the ground-breaking ceremony. The 6,000m2 facility, which will eventually employ 150 people, is targeting an annual output of 500,000-600,000 parts by 2020. A 3,000m2 extension is already planned for 2019 to accommodate surface treatment and painting activities.

The paperless factory will combine automated workflow (robotic systems, automated intelligent vehicles) and innovative processes based on the Internet of things (IoT) and radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology. Through the application of lean production principles, the company aims to reduce production cycles from several weeks to a few days.

France’s Industry of the Future Alliance (AIF) has approved the project as a showcase for the industry of the future in terms of its production organisation and the use of the latest digital technologies.

Also in 2018, Latécoère is bringing on line a 5,000m2 aerostructures facility at Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
