India test-fires Agni 5 ballistic missile

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) reports that an Agni 5 nuclear-capable ballistic missile was successfully launched on 10th December.

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) reports that an Agni 5 nuclear-capable ballistic missile was successfully launched on 10th December from a road-mobile launcher on Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

The launch operations were carried out and monitored by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) in presence of DRDO scientists and other associated officials. According to DRDO, all the mission objectives were successfully achieved.

The three-stage, solid-fuelled Agni 5, with a range of more than 5,500km, gives New Delhi the capability of striking targets in China. It has undergone a series of successful test firings since the first launch in April 2012.
