First A321neo goes to Virgin America

Virgin America has become the first airline to take delivery of the Airbus A321neo, the largest member of the re-engined A320neo family. The aircraft, powered by CFMI LEAP-1A engines, is the first of ten being leased from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).

The airline is scheduled to take delivery of all 10 aircraft by the third quarter of 2018.

The aircraft are configured for 185 seats, presumably in three-class configuration. The carrier has also placed orders with Airbus for 30 A320neos.

Virgin America — now part of Alaska Air Group — currently operates an all-Airbus fleet of 63 A320 Family aircraft comprising A319 and A320 aircraft equipped with original “ceo” engines. The airline has also announced plans to introduce Alaska Air E175s operated by SkyWest Airlines on routes out of Dallas Love Field.

As of 31st January, Airbus held orders for 1,388 A321neo aircraft.
