Dubai Airshow 2017: Boeing announces further orders

Boeing has followed its opening-day announcement of a 40-aircraft commitment from Emirates for the 787-10 with three other orders.

After opening the show with a 40-aircraft commitment from Emirates for the 787-10, Boeing has followed up with smaller orders from three other customers.

On Tuesday, the company announced an order from Ethiopian Airlines for four 777 Freighters, taking the carrier's fleet from six to 10. The order has a theoretical value of more than $1.3bn at list prices.

The deal includes a new order for two aircraft, along with two others the airline announced as a commitment in June and which have now been converted into firm orders.

The order takes 777 net orders this year to 57, including 37 for the current-generation 777.

Ethiopian Cargo — the largest network cargo operator in Africa — opened a state-of-the-art cargo terminal in June 2017 that gives the carrier an annual capacity of one million tons.

The previous day, Boeing said that it had finalised an order for 20 additional 737 MAX 8s from ALAFCO Aviation Lease and Finance Company, doubling the lessor's order book for the MAX airplane.

The deal, valued at $2.2bn at current list prices, was announced as a commitment at the Paris Air Show.

On the opening day of the show, overshadowed by the Emirates 787-10 deal — Boeing also announced an order from Azerbaijan Airlines for five more 787-8 Dreamliners and a commitment to purchase two large freighters, to be finalised at a later date. The agreement is valued at about $1.9bn at current list prices.

Azerbaijan Airlines also announced it would be the launch customer for the 787 Landing Gear Exchange Program whereby Boeing Global Services will provide the carrier with a lower-cost solution for overhauled and certified landing gears for its Dreamliner fleet, which now numbers seven aircraft.
